Theory Training

Essential knowledge and regulations

  • Traffic Rules and Regulations: Deep understanding of road signs, traffic laws, and highway codes, specifically for commercial/heavy vehicles.
  • Vehicle Systems and Components: In-depth knowledge of the C1 vehicle, including engine, braking systems, and load safety.
  • Basic Mechanical Training: Understanding of pre-trip inspections, daily checks (oil, water, tires, lights), and minor fault diagnosis.
  • Defensive Driving: Techniques to mitigate risks, handle emergency scenarios, and improve road safety.
  • First Aid Training: Basic, relevant first-aid skills for, drivers

What You'll Learn

Highway Code for Larger Vehicles: Understanding specific rules, signs, and regulations that apply to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.
Vehicle Knowledge: Understanding the mechanics, safety systems, and maintenance requirements of a 7.5-tonne vehicle.
Hazard Perception: Identifying potential hazards earlier due to increased vehicle size and longer braking distances.
Driver Hours & Regulations: Understanding rules regarding driving times, breaks, and tachographs if driving commercially

Prerequisites

Age: Minimum 18 years old (some jurisdictions, such as Kenya, require a minimum age of 22 years).
Existing License: A full valid Category B (standard car) driving licence is required.
Medical Fitness: You must pass a medical examination (often a D4 form) to ensure you are fit to drive larger vehicles, including vision checks.
